Marcelena was born to a Basque father and American mother immigrating to San Antonio in 1967 before settling in Dallas where she studied anthropology. Anthropology led her to explore the deep rooted craftsmanship embedded in her own Basque culture. Shortly thereafter Marcelena apprenticed with a book binder where she learned tooling skills while working in leather. In 1983 she founded her custom leather studio, Larru Leather Company in the Dallas Design District. Embracing timeless techniques Marcelena brings the best of old-world craftsmanship and applies that to new-world modern design creating beautiful leather work.

Designers, architects, and manufacturers from around the country turn to Larru Leathers to satisfy their desires for beautifully crafted hand tooled leather wall tiles, desk blotters and exquisitely bound books, to colorful marbleized purses, accessories and furniture.
